Glossary

  • Card Meta-data: The Card Account reference data, such as the Primary Account Number’s (PAN) last four digits, the PAN’s expiry date, Card image artwork, etc.
  • DCSC: The Dynamic Card Security Code. A four-digit number that identifies a unique AMEX Card in the transaction context.
  • Merchant Account Number: A 10-digit Service Establishment Number that American Express assigns to each Merchant.
  • Merchant ID: The Merchant Account Identifier. A 10-digit number that represents the Merchant account in the American Express’ systems. This identifier is found in the Merchant Financial Activity Statement or by calling Merchant Services at 1-866-220-4272.
  • PAN: The Primary Account Number. This number is the traditional American Express account number printed on cards.
  • SE Number: A Service Establishment Number. A unique, 10-digit number assigned by American Express to a Merchant.
  • Token: A token is a 15-digit numeric alias for a PAN that is unique to a Merchant. Merchants may use these tokens to process, authorize, settle, and dispute a Card Member’s transactions similar to the PAN.
