Card on-demand APIs are designed for FinTechs and business software providers, just like you, who want to partner1 with American Express to provide accounts payable, expense management, and bill payment solutions for American Express Customers. Card on-demand APIs enable end-users, who are American Express Customers, to enroll their eligible American Express Card account2 in your software, to generate and fund on-demand virtual Cards for business payments.

On-demand virtual Cards enable Customers to establish specific controls on how the Cards may be used, including determining single- or multi-use, spend limits, expiration dates, allowed merchant categories, and more!

Improve transaction visibility and payment reconciliation

Customers may create multiple on-demand virtual Cards, each with a unique 15-digit number that is different from the underlying American Express Card funding account number. This facilitates more efficient reconciliation by providing granular visibility into transactions by Card.

  1. To be eligible for American Express® Card on-demand, Partners must apply, be approved and execute a Partnership Agreement with American Express.
  2. To use on-demand virtual Cards, the American Express Customer must have an American Express Small Business Card or American Express Corporate Card. American Express Small Business Employee Cards are not eligible to be enrolled in Card on-demand. Eligible American Express Cards are subject to change.
  3. Not all Cards are eligible to earn rewards. Terms and limitations vary by Card type.
  4. The revenue share earned by the Partner will be determined by the executed Partnership Agreement between Card on-demand Partners and American Express.
