AMEX Account Connect

Amex Account Connect enables eligible American Express® Card Members to add their Cards on file with participating Partners using their American Express log in credentials instead of manually entering the Card information.

American Express publishes an overview for this product but no API specification, so there is no endpoint reference to show.

AMEX Account Connect is a suite of APIs that enables eligible American Express® Card Members to add their Cards on file with participating Partners, using their American Express login credentials, instead of manually entering the Card information. There are two journeys available where the Card Member can begin the journey. A User can start from AMEX channels, or from the Partner’s channel to link their eligible American Express Card without needing the Card on-hand. Last Updated: February 26, 2025

AMEX Account Connect is available for U.S. e-commerce partners and merchants and can be leveraged for U.S. Proprietary Card Members (Consumer, Small Business, Corporate).

Highlights

The user selects Add Card to Wallets & Merchants.

The user selects which American Express Card to connect with the Merchant.

The user agrees to the Terms and Conditions.

The user signs in to their Merchant account.

The user acknowledges the Merchant’s terms and use of the Card.

Confirmation that the Card has been added to the User’s Merchant account.

Automatically updates expired/replaced Cards on-file whenever Card information changes, when paired with AMEX Token Service integration.

Card Members who are offered an Instant Card Number at Card application approval can seamlessly add their Card on-file; a crucial moment when the Customer is focused on setting up their preferred payments, while also enabling spend before the Card arrives.
